How the 44 feet break down
The net splits the court into two 22 ft halves. On each side, the first 7 ft from the net is the kitchen, and the remaining 15 ft is divided by the centerline into two service boxes that are 10 ft wide. Serves must land in the diagonal service box beyond the kitchen line.

A 30 ft x 60 ft surface leaves 5 ft beside each sideline and 8 ft behind each baseline. The preferred 34 ft x 64 ft surface leaves 7 ft beside each sideline and 10 ft behind each baseline, which gives more room for deep serves, lobs, and safe movement.
